Time for a little repair work to the HVAC control on the 85 Mustang

Elroy knew that repairs were going to be needed on the control back in 97.

Search of local wrecking yards at that time yielded a suitable replacement.

While the art work is slightly different from the original, all the switch and vacuum docking ports are the same.
Even the "replacement" control had some problems
L1000397.JPG
The screw bosses for both the blower motor and rear window defogger switch were cracked/missing.
Nothing like a little JB Weld to the rescue.

48 hours later and the JB Weld is fully cured and ready for threading. Elroy was concerned that the original course thread screws would crack the repair so it was time for drilling and tapping for 8-32 "machine threads"

took this opportunity to clean up the instrument cluster and install 12 new #168 bulbs

LMR (Late Model Restorations) came through with a new dash pad

How did the pad fit? Dashboards make me bleed.

don't know...........it's still in the wrapper. Elroy will advise accordingly as he's currently addressing additional issues.
did the same to my old Jag center cluster years ago -- still holding up strong. Good job Elroy!!

It some respects it fit great...........in other respects it SUCKED.

The old dash pad simply had to go. You can see just how badly it was sun baked and busted up.

What sucked were the fact most of the hard anchor tabs were missing..........replaced with floppy vinyl,
Elroy had to fab up some firm tabs. That sucked because you're working blind.
Put it in, take it out...put it in, take it out
Must have fitted that dam thing in there 30 times.
Elroy got all the screws in there and it fits OK after about 6 hours.
well it's all back together. Like magic the blower works again and the idle speed has returned to normal with the vacuum leaks at the dash control being eliminated.

the 55 psi @ 500 rpm cold is good. Hot idle pressure is 35 psi. For 250,000 miles Elroy is a happy boy.
