Title: California is Now Dictating the Laws of Nature.

I saw this on a paper plate I was recently using. Apparently, this plate is compostable except in California. ????

I don't generally try to compost much paper . Just kitchen and yard type stuff.

We don't compost, but we recycle a lot of stuff. That is, we put it in the can and lug it down to the street. As to whether it actually gets recycled, who knows?

I compost vegetable scraps and lightweight paper such as paper towels, receipts and the really cheap uncoated paper plates. Also grass clippings. We don't have "compostable" garbage pickup here, even though California mandated it for all garbage pickup customers a few years ago.

The garbage companies threw a fit, as they can't send 3 trucks per week for garbage, compostables and yard waste in areas where they might have 2 customers per mile on a route. Exemptions were added for areas with a low population density (i.e., where I live).

I just thought it was interesting that the paper plate I pictured is compostable everywhere except California. These plates actually do compost in my pile, but they take a bit longer than the cheap ones.

I hope I am not breaking any laws by composting them LOL.
