I know it's blasphemy to even mention this topic on a tool and garage forum, but when we moved a few years back I found that I had tools that weren't even unpacked from two moves previously, and I had totally forgotten about them. Since we moved a lot during the late 1990's, I wound up purchasing tools that I already had, but forgot about.

How many of you older guys are in the same boat?

I have a lot of "extra" tools. Many of them were picked up after different sub contractors leave a site after they "cleaned up". I have enough 50' extension cords to plug in a light 80 miles from here, and if that light doesn't work I have 2 boxes of Klein pliers and screwdrivers to fix it.

I'm getting ready to gift my nephew with a pile of tools out of my spares. Young man is married and buying a house - but doesn't have any tools. So I'm gonna set him up with a nice collection.

Good for you brother, and welcome back!

When I retired, and the direction of my shop hobbies changed, I realized I really didn't need 2-3 sets of metric anything. I am mostly playing with machine tools now, and I don't have much desire to work on motorcycles anymore now that my balance is gone. So I moved them on.
