Had to do an oil change on Mrs. Goodfellow's 2012 Traverse today, and while I was at it I decided to check the state of the PCV valve. Technically it's not a PCV valve, but an air metering valve that lets crankcase gases into the intake system. Problem is it clogs up and causes all sorts of trouble code warnings and maintenance issues. For lack of a better term we'll keep calling it a PCV valve and roll with it.

This valve was modified over a decade ago and we've had zero issues with oil contamination in the intake system. In fact I don't even bother checking the throttle body for oil and carbon buildup anymore. However, since it's been over a decade, I decided to remove the "PCV" valve and check it out.

It was a little grimy on the outside, but inside it was still open and clog free. The mode held up just fine.

Throttle body is clean as a whistle!

I ran some carb cleaner through the PCV valve just for the heck of it and reinstalled it as is. No more worries for another few years.

Here's the link to the modified PCV valve fix.
