Went to a new bank branch today to do some banking, and right next door was a pawn shop. I rarely go in these places because around here everything is usually overpriced and the good tools and instruments are rarely a good buy; except today.

I saw this little tachometer in the case and asked what they wanted. The pawnshop salesman thought is was a stop watch, and since it didn't work like a stop watch he assumed it was broken. I calmly kept my big yap shut and offered him $10. Naturally he wanted $20, and we finally settled on $15.

I don't know anything much about the company, but just by the look, feel , finish of the body and the accessories I can tell that this is a very high quality mechanical tachometer -- it is built like a Swiss watch and is very heavy.

I found the complete instructions hidden under the felt of the lid ---

Glad I decided to stop in and take a quick look.

Yes, it's always fun to find some obscure tool or gadget that has a bit of history.

Elroy has a Hasler that's dated to 1908. It is indeed a "stop watch" that runs for 3 seconds. During that short period of time, it counts the number of revolutions that occur and displays it as revolutions per minute. These little jewels are more precision than a Rolex. They're neat items.

That is a treasure.
I have one as well but a different brand, surprisingly handy.

I have Starrett, and a Stewart Warner, the SW looks much like a SW instrument.
