How about a chalk line thread?

Looking of old ones, but any would make the thread more interesting. Post up what you've got!

I found this Seymour at an estate sale yesterday. Disassembled, cleaned, and put back together with no chalk. Says "Seymour, Conn. Made in USA". Never seen one like it. Anyone got any ideas as to age?

I had an old Straight line from my grandfather that I loved but the plastic spool inside was broken and couldn't be fixed so I had to grab a current production imported Irwin Straight line from the hardware store.
I have a hammer addiction,  and a 1/4 ratchet addiction, and a pry bar addiction,  and a screwdriver addiction, and well I just have an addiction to hand tools in general.

I have two of the metal case Irwin straight lines. Ones at least 20 years old. Not sure how I ended up with two but I keep red chalk in one and blue in the other.

The new one I bought also has a metal case, but is a fatter bulkier shape that I don't really care for.

I needed more light in the garage so I bought some LED fixtures that look like 4' florescents.

There was one fixture in there and I added 8 (plus replacing the florescent). Rather than measure out the location of each one I decided the best way was to lay some chalk lines on the (finished) ceiling. (Can you still lay a chalk line above your head?) Anyway the lights came out good enough to satisfy my ODC and it wasn't really all that difficult no doubt much easier than doing all that measuring. Plus it was an excuse to use the lines.

Can I ask how long ago?

Now days, this may be a good thing for a 3d printer.

With the shape I am in now, several cop buddies are more then likely to joke about a chalk outline around where they find me.

It was probably 4 years ago.
I don't think I tossed the thing, but when it comes to hand tools I hate plastic and don't consider plastic tools or parts to be worthy of repair.

I have a couple. Probably Stanley or Irwin (is there a difference?). The sort of diamond-shaped ones.

I doubt I could find either one in less than two hours, though. I know I also have a container of blue chalk here somewhere...

Went to Ace Hardware and bought some small rubber plugs and grommets, hoping to shrink the hole where the string comes out. Not bad. String doesn't hang up either out or in and the hole is alot smaller now. Should keep chalk loss down to a minimum.

The old diamond shaped ones would be the Straightline, which I believe was a company bought out by Irwin and not created by them ?
