Who knows battery groups?

Need some help here and not finding much on my searches.

I need what may be a group 85 bit not positive about that. CCA rating is 540 and dimensions are 9 x 6.5 by about 7 tall. I can't use an application chart it's a 27 T bucket with a 350/350 and under the floor battery location. Pretty cramped location not sure if there's much room for bigger dimensions. Oh, negative terminal on the left.

I could take it for comparison but the car is about 250 miles away and I'd like to order one to have it ready when I go back if possible. Otherwise I'll just pull it and compare when I go back.

THanks!

Thank you. That was exactly what I was looking for. Looks like Group 85R is the one.

NEG terminal on the left, if NEG is on the right, turn the battery 180* lol
Did you notice the terminal type, also on the top or side?

Battery boxes for hotrods, unless custom, are pretty much all the same.

Pretty standard:
The T bucket most likely will have one of these
Will hold a battery up to 10-5/8" x 7-1/16" up to 7-1/2
Will hold a battery up to 10.75"  x 7"      up to 9"

Thank you. Negative terminal on left. Top post.

The box is just over 9"L. Battery could be slightly wider but not much deeper.

Kidding around NEG L or R, HotRods have no wiring standards. The battery could be in backwards. Did the Speedway Motors universal battery boxes give any hints?

That's a pretty cool site, thank you, I appreciate the help. I didn't get a great look at the battery box but I didn't see anything that seemed to have the same type of hold down. I suspect I'll wait until go back and measure the opening in the floor and the clearance underneath and get a new box when I replace the battery. Take a little longer but better than guessing and there's no one at the other who would be able to pull the battery.

Used to have mixed luck at the pick and pull, since they yanked batteries.  The rubber holder or bar seemed to be tossed a lot, so they didn't seem to care, charge for them when you did find them.

I kept a couple spares for the shop, as customers would come in with a loose/sliding battery, and the issue of forgetting to tighten the clamps.

I love the P&P places. Haven't found one near me since I moved unfortunately. I will be going to back end of next month and will try to fit a visit in.

The ones around me pull the batteries and poke holes in the gas tanks. Most of them pull the rotors and drums to sell as scrap.

My wife's 2018 Toyota Rav4 has a recall notice regarding the battery. It uses a group 35 battery, but there is another battery size that has the same L x W, but is not as tall. I know this because I had to buy one in a pinch for another car.

I don't recall the group number of the shorter battery, but they come with a spacer to put on top so the battery hold down can actually hold the battery down.

Apparently, people were installing these shorter batteries in the RAV4s without the spacer or any common sense. The recall letter stated that in a collision or on a bumpy road, the battery terminals could contact the underside of the hood and cause a fire. The letter contained a small sticker to place on the battery hold down, indicating the importance of using the proper sized battery. I dutifully installed the sticker.

Then I thought about all of the vehicles I have driven over the years with unsecured batteries.  ::)

I recall driving a lot of older American iron with unsecured batteries. I had one car that still had a generator and it was not uncommon for me to use a borrowed battery to start the carwhen mine was dead (most of the time) and while running switch batteries. Holdowns were not even a thought. But those cars had plenty of room and clearance as a rule and the cables would stop battery travel before it could hit the underside of the hood. Modern cars are too crowded for that.

Battery groups have gotten very confusing at least to me. I am impressed you even included the warning sticker.
